When a complex building looks simple, you know there has been a master hand at work on the design. Because making architecture look simple is the hardest element to achieve. But this new work in Buenos Aires, Argentina, by Barrionuevo Sierchuk Arquitectas has more than accomplished the fine art of simplicity, producing a building of such beauty that it has that inherent quietness of a space which is calming. The sort of building where one just wants to be....no hurry to race off anywhere else....

Massive windows....allowing the sun to stream in when wanted, but with generous overhangs to control it when the summer heat elevates....finishes which are neutral but warm...and rooms which are inviting, designed for people to actually use the space...to encourage one to sit and linger awhile...it has the airiness of an open plan layout, but it's actually composed of distinct rooms...very clever...

It's one of the most beautiful houses I have seen for quite a while...and in many ways it is no surprise that it's in South America, because as far as contemporary architecture is concerned, I reckon it's currently the hottest place on the planet...
